Just changed the impeller

I have an 86 150 hp blackmax. Just changed the impeller. I tested it on the muffs and the stream from the tell tale hole is not as good as the older impeller. Will it have a better stream if the motor is in the water as opposed to being hooked up the muffs?

Another question, does the thermostat dictate how much water comes out of the tell tale hole?

A lot of the thermostats control the telltale, on the V6s. I am not sure about your motor. Put your hand on the heads and see how warm they get. You should not get burned, but the heads should be warm enough to make you want to move your hand after 10 sec or so.

Also look for water out of the prop and other areas. You should also see the water sucked in from the muffs when you start it up.
