Good day all! I just rebuilt my 1998 Mercury v6 150 and disabled the oil injection and have gone to oil premix in the tank. Can anyone advise me how to disable the alarm. I've disconnected the sensor to the oil injector "cap" and the oil motion sensor for the oil pump shaft by disconnecting the blue and blue/white leads from the lubealert. The alarm is still sounding. What am I missing?

There is a module that takes the signals from various senders and interprets whether or not to send a signal. Without a motion sensor or a working drive to make it work, the motor is always going to think the pump has failed and send the warning. You have to remove the module. You should still have a separate overheat sensor straight to the horn. There will be inputs from the motion sensor, oil cap, and one of the ignition switchbox coil leads. Plus the ground and power wires.

That being said, why would you rebuild the motor and not fix the oil pump part? That cuts the motor's resale value in half if not less. :(

" removing oil pump cuts value in 1/2 " ?

Thats a controversial statement if I ever heard one..
With a 1998 engine like the Tarponators I bet by bypassing the pump if anything may increase value.. :)

Tarponator, read thru the topic that I posted titled oil injection alarm--Read this. I had the same problem. The oil injection module has to be removed to get the alarm to stop sounding. The 2nd paragraph has a message that rick from rickracers sent me. Its how to properly remove the oil injection system and run premix. Hope that helps, Joe.

First, thanks for the help verojoe27.

Yesterday I researched some past posting and turns out I also needed to disconnect the "purple" wire to the oil modules (lubealert). I was disconnecting the sensors (blue and blue/white wires) and that did nothing.

Willie, it’s not about resale value, it's about performance and "reliability". Why repair a component that's notorious for failing simply to appease the environmentalist. By premixing, I'm "guarantying" I will have no oil related problems. The Mercury should run a long time now. Did you know that at 1/2 to full throttle the oil injector systems are pumping the equivalent to premix 50:1. Only at idle do you gain the benefit of "pollution control" with the oil injection system cutting back oil usage to 100:1. Unless I'm Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande, most of the time I'm not idling. So all this "oil Injection" hardware is to save the earth. (Also the benefit of only having to put oil in the reservoir every 3 tanks, but that's in significant). I'm going to ride this motor like the wind and one day when it fails again, it will be time to go 4 stroke.(probably won't have a choice then).

By using the term "guarantying", it assumes I don't forget to put oil in the gas tank...LOL

Thanks for everyone's help getting me back on the water.
