My mechanic just informed me my exchanger is n.g
I have a 1984 4 cylinder mercruiser.
I need an aluminum exchanger.
I see on this forumn boaters have had exchangers fixed by going too a radiator shop.
Are they succesfull?
Calling Sea Ray they said most times radiator shops dont do a good job ?
I dont know extent of damage but mechanic said he can get me a new which is proberly after market for 350.00
Plus labor,2 hrs labor. Radiator shop I called said he can clean pipes and re route if there is a leak, price around 95 up too 140.
New verses used is close but after 4 grand in repairs this year I am tired of digging into my pockets
As anybody had a radiator shop repair their exchanger?

your heat exchanger is copper or 90/10 copper/nickle. most radiator shops do a good job. I used to work for one of the HX manufacturers. about 50% of the time they can be repaired. the other 50% of the time, your looking at new.
