Hi everyone first time author, I just installed a brand new marine stereo, replaced a old maxxima marine stereo since the older connections dont work with newer stereos i tried to splice wires into the old connectors and nothing worked, i have a red wire/yellow wire and black ground wire and of course speaker wires i ended up splicing the red and yellow together and going directly to +pos on battery and ground to -neg on battery my concern is ( I only have 1 battery) killing the battery my thoughts are if radio is turned off i shouldn't draw juice from the battery except the Yellow/memory wire, should i add a toggle switch and if so would both red/yellow connect on same post of toggle

Welcome to iboats!

A deep cycle battery in good shape should be able to go for weeks with the memory current drain and still start the motor, so a switch is optional. If you do decide to use one, you might as well hook both the yellow and the red to it since you need both to operate the stereo anyway.

You could check for current flow (amperage) by taking a lead off the battery and connecting a multimeter in-line to make sure there is no current drain.

I put a new stereo in late last year and I ended up with nearly 0.3A current draw with the face-plate on, which would kill the battery in a week or less. It drops to nearly zero when I pop off the face plate. Sometimes it pays to check.
