Just one more time. Temp gauge & sender

I have a 79 85hp evinrude. I hooked up a Amega Teleflex gauge, hooked up a sender to the head screw, with the engine off it pegs to 240 with the ignition on it wants to go further. Wires are grounded but this sender also seems to be acting as a ground. I was thinking maybe the sender is not compatiable with the gauge any suggestions? ps.. can not find a sender just for evinrude or this Infamous Z BRACKET........

Did you use your existing sending unit or one supplied with the new guage, as they may not be the same sending unit.

Thank's 4: 30 am and mind is still one trAC ON THIS DILEMA, pulled up site and I believe this is a good place to start.......
