Well I was going to purchase a 1987 Imperial VC200 with a 3.7 but with the wealth of knowledge on this forum I was steered away thankfully. I found a 2001 Bayliner Capri 19.5 the guy was asking $5,000 and I ended up buying it for $3,000 with the trailer, a Bimini top, a set of skis, ropes, anchors and life jackets :) boat is in decent shape motor ran fine, trim works, along with all the gauges. I did not do a compression test but it was kept on a local lake and maintained by a local dealer (recent carb rebuild and impeller replacement) it does need some very minor cleaning but nothing I can't clean with simple green.

My question is should I worry about dropping the outdrive and inspecting/replacing the impeller? Is there any major concern with this motor as far as a pre-season inspection? The motor looks very straight forward and simple which I like. I know I won't be the fastest on the lake but I should be into it fairly inexpensive and hopefully pretty reliable.

I would say you do whatever you need to feel it is maintained up to snuff. I myself went 2 full seasons before doing anything over winterizing or seasonal maintenance. This year I am doing bellows and impeller. I was certain that the po of my boat took it to the mechanic every year for whatever it needed.

I've got an '02 Capri - if you're runnin' the 3.0, it should get into the 40s for ya'. That's respectable.

If the dealer recently did the impeller, and you've got the paperwork showing that - I'd be inclined to start my maintenance schedule form that install. Any reason not to trust that service record?

Sounds like you got it for a good price...below NADA. Which exact model is it?

This is way better than what you were looking at before!

Personally, I like to start out with a clean slate but since it has just had the impeller done, I would at least pull the drive and check for water in the bellows and check alignment.

Sounds like you have a nice Bayliner and the seller threw in all kinds of extra GOODIE'S,just like I did when I sold my 2000 Capri last year. The 1999 and above Capri's are well made boats and have a updated hull design, fit and finish are like night and day as compared to the OLDER models. For piece of mind, do the Bellows, Impellor and engine align, along with normal fluid replacement. BTW sounds like you got ONE HECK of a deal!...PICTURES??

I will post up some pictures this weekend, I plan on doing the impeller, cap, wires, spark plugs, engine oil, and check the alignment. The battery is also one year old so I should be good there. I will get it cleaned up this weekend and post up some pictures. I really had the itch to get a lot of snow so I could ride my Ski-Doo Snowmobile this winter but that has since faded away, I want the warmer weather to be here to get out on the water now!

That"s very nice looking boat and a killer deal too, congrats. Bayliners sure have come a long way. You might want to look at that prop.

Nice buy Newbie - looks almost just like mine. I've enjoyed the boat plenty, it rides nice and is pretty efficient. Not the fastest on the lake, but not the slowest either by any means.

So today I let the boat run for about half an hour today on the hose and realized the water pump was leaking so slightly out of the weep hole, went to the store and got a new pump, installed it and its perfect now. This boat runs extremely well :) The new prop is on the way, I also have new spark plugs, oil filter/oil, fuel filter/water sep on the way.....I drained all the water from the motor and put in some anti freeze because it will be getting cold out again here in CT although it was 55 out today....So once it gets warm out and stays that way I will finish what I need to do and be on the lake!

Nice deal. Get yourself a 4 blade prop if you want to do water sports and it'll be a great family boat. Sold one a few years newer than that for $9500 2 seasons ago, so I would say you got a heck of a deal.

And that part is brutal. I've been doing it for over two months now. The average low for April where I live is 47 compared to 37 for March... just another month or so!
