Hey, their would be half the amount of water in that tank if it didn't have ethanol.

I'm not fully blaming the ethanol either. it contributed. plus, The boat has been sitting in my driveway for 7 years.

Here we go again!

If it wasn't for the ethanol in the gas, there would be MORE water. It isn't a water pheromone!
The first 0.5% of the water dissolved in the gas because of the Ethanol.

You didn't mention what sort of stabilizer you used.

I keep good ole STP gas treatment in my tanks with ethenol gas in there several years with no problem.

Re: Just Pulled a Gas Sample from my tank

I used marine Stabil each fill up. But most stabilizers only last 2-3 years. When I started my motor this year I used a 6 gallon portable tank with seafoam and stabil mixed together.
The reason why I didn't use my boat over the years cause of the price of fuel keeps rising. Plus the seat was rotten. The last time it was in the water I had to either pull the boat out of the water to fill up the tank or use four 6 gallon tanks to fill it up. 50 gallon tank and with gas dock prices around $6 a gallon = $300 each fill up at the gas dock. It dosent help that my boat is a gas guzzler.
Like the saying goes... "Bust out another thousand"

I wouldn't expect to use any gas that was 8 years old. In fact, I would be dumping gas that was a lot newer(2 year old gas would be pushing it for me).... Might as well take the carb off and rebuild it before trying to start it. Also, change any filters......

I already cleaned the whole fuel system on the engine. And did a complte tune up as well earlier in the year.
Right now their is about 20 gallons left in the tank. Going to try to get the test of it out tonight.

You really pay $6.00 per gallon for fuel? I thought Michigan was one of the higher cost places for marina fuel, guess I was dead wrong.

you can say all you want but ethanol has destroyed more small and large engines than we all no. it starts seperating after setting idle in 2 weeks. it will wreck lawn mowers chain saws weed eaters. i have talked to many small engine shops over the last several years and they all claim since they started putting ethanol in gas there business has more than trippled. funny thing are goverment pushed for it they now dont no what to do about it, and they never will admit there wrong. I dont care how far i have to drive to stop using ethnol, in my 2 boats, 2 cars, 1 truck, lawn mowers 3, and chain saw

Yeah it ain't cheap up here in Connecticut are gas prices are one of the highest in the nation.

Never really had a problem with my yard equipment. I don't even drain the tank in those. But I do use stabilizer in them cheap stuff not name brand. Only name brand in my outboards and I/O.

Don't put water in your tank it will sit on the bottom & get sucked into your motor.

I guess we have different gasoline with a different kind of ethanol here in New Mexico because I've been using gas with 10% ethanol in every vehicle and piece of equipment I own (including a 1984 25 horse Johnson and a 1994 Evinrude outboard) since as long as it's been available here without any problems. In general, I've tried to not leave unused gas in any of my tanks for more than a month or two but haven't always been as careful as I should have been.

Last year I had some medical problems that prevented me from doing any fishing after about the first week in May and I left about four gallons of gas setting in the portable, six gallon tank in an unheated shed from then until last week. Last Weekend I decided to go fishing for walleye and/or white bass at Caballo Lake, about fifty miles from here, using the '94 Evinrude and since the gas in the tank smelled OK, decided to take a chance and use it. I did take a two gallon tank of new gas just in case I had any trouble. I couldn't tell any difference in operation either running at WOT or trolling at two or three mph, except it may have possibly put out a little more smoke than usual and didn't seem to run as smoothly as I thought it should at trolling speed. I don't know whether that was caused by last year's gas or by the fact that it was past due time to change the spark plugs, which I didn't take time to do because the trip was a spur of the moment thing. I'm also not sure about whether it really did run a little less smoothly at trolling speed - that may have been my imagination. Naturally, I don't intend to make a habit of using gas that's almost year old, but I'm not near so skittish about using gas that is several months old as I have been in the past. I've still got some of the old gas left and it will be interesting to see whether changing the plugs (which I intend to do before the next trip) then running on the old gas will make a difference or not.

The 8 year old gas could be used for starting brush piles burning on a farm, but could still be highly explosive. I would save it for that. We have a good pile of brush every couple years from deadfalls, etc.

Ya know, a friend of mine works for Marathon Oil here in Ohio. He says, since they don't know when the gas they produce will actually be used they put stabilizer in it at the refinery.

This is why you ALWAYS store your fuel tanks empty, not full! Gas that you haven't bought yet won't go bad.
