81 235. just rebuilt all 3 carbs with kits folllowing shop manual and instructions in the forum. made sure linkage was correct and adjusted throttle pick up point.

1) no leaks when pumping bulb to fill bowls and motor is down. but i noticed some gas leaking out from under silencer when engine is raised for towing. normal?

2) this is my first time running an outboard on muffs. started much easier than when in water and engine seems to idle a little higher. normal?

thanks!

#2 is normal, final adjustments need to be made in the water, when fully warmed up.
#1 I have no idea honestly, I've only rebuilt one set of 3 in my life, and it was recent, and I had all kinds of leaks at first. Took me several times to get it fixed. I don't feel I have enough experience to adequately answer the question. I am sure others who have been doing this a long time will pop in pretty soon.

Full carburetors will leak somewhat when tilted. That's what that hose is for that's attached to the inside bottom portion of the air silencer. If fuel is leaking past that silencer casing, new gaskets are in order at that point.

On a flushette, a 20" shaft engine should idle at 1000 rpm, a 25" shaft 1200 rpm. In the water, the idle will drop to normal.
