The number one wire will go to the 5 0'clock position on the distributor. Right?

I guess it depends on the orientation . . . .per the picture, it is about 2 O'clock. From the front of the engine it would be about 5 O'clock. (not sure if it is AM or PM though :D )

Nice!

Others can correct me if I am wrong, but the actual orientation of the number one wire isn't set in stone, as long as the firing order is correct and when the number one cylinder is at tdc, the rotor is set to the number one wire. My number one wire is at the number 8 location on that drawing.

To be sure, you will have to bring #1 piston up to TDC on the firing stroke.
Then see where the rotor is pointing. That should be where #1 on the distributor is.

Did you remove all the wires or remove the distributor?

The wires were removed. Just took a look at things. If the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is for the number one cylinder all I have to do is set the timing mark on the front of the engine and the rotor should point at TDC on the distributor for #1 wire. But it looks like It can be off by 180*. so 50/50 chance of getting it right the first time. does that make sense to any body but me?

Ayuh,.... Ya have to be Tdc, #1, Compression stroke,..... Not Tdc, #1, Exhaust stroke,...

Too funny. I am on zulu time so will I have to cross a international time zone to get this right? LOL..

I did get it! Runs like a raped ape. Now I just have to get past this over heating problem and I should be ok.Wish me luck with that.

Peace brothers.
