hello all and good evening. i have just bought a 2003 wellcraft 250 fisherman tourny edition. it was super clean and all is well except for the keel having some rubbing on it caused by the plate on the trailer. it looks to be up to the fiberglass, no more than 3/16" deep, maybe a 1/4" but i dont think so. from what ive learned here its the gelcoat thats missing. sofrom what ive read on these forums is that i get some of the marine tex, follow directions and Blam-O, all is well? should i sand back a little and add some fiberglass pieces and try to form the point again? i would say it is about a half inch to an inch wide. im going to eventually add the keel guard as soon as its done. im also gonna try to raise the side rails so it doesnt rub that plate on trailer. thanks for any info.

If there is dmage into the fiberglass you will need to sand back about 6 inches all the way around the repair area. Feather the sanding back. Then repair the fiberglass and then put the gelcoat repair in. Search the forums there is a lot of info on this type of repair. Good luck. get some pics up so we can see what your working with.

i hope that came out, ok. as you can see this was caused by the rubber pad there. it has a bolt in it and the pad is worn down. i need to lift the boat about 2-3 inches to apply marine tex and replace pad. also i was wondering should i put plates under rails to raise them a touch to avoid this in the future? also im wondering if i do the "rasie the front and lower it on blocks" to where i have a 3 inch clearence to do the repairs, will it be ok on a slight angle over night to let marine tex cure, or shoudl i rip a couple of 4x4s 3 inches to 0 inches and put them in the rails for support. heres a pic of the boat and the angle its at.

as you can see its not to much, im thinking if i block it now and lower the trailer i should be ok, of course itll be hooked up to the tundra. thanks all
