Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone on this site. A year ago my husband and I bought our first boat and got really scammed on it. With no money to get a different one we prowled this site and checked everything and anything we could for assistance on why our boat was running like a piece of crap. After posting things ranging from hull repair to engine issues, we finally got the boat, for the most part, running like a beast. Just got a few minor things to adjust and replace but otherwise we are very pleased with all of our hard work.

This site has made it possible for us complete boat not-know-it-alls to actually learn stuff. You guys are awesome :)

Give yourselves credit for sticking with it and learning. You won't get scammed again.

This is one of the few sites that likes spending and saving other people's money. :)

Tell 'em you want to buy a new boat and they'll spend your money for you. Tell 'em you only have X amount of money for repairs, and they'll find a way to make it happen.

Thanks :) We are actually pretty thankful in a way because without a problem ridden boat we wouldnt know alot of the stuff we know now. I mean I never knew I could even rebuild a carb but I did and the hubby was pretty impressed that it actually worked. I missed one little bearing in it though ooops lol.

Well as a hint..... continue to contribute! The need for boating items and advice happens seasonally.

Oh for sure! If we have any advice or tips we can give we will offer it happily when we see it is needed. Maybe some of our day long headaches and then the "A-HAH!" moment when we realized it was easier to fix then we were making it out to be will serve as some help for someone so they dont have to run into the same thing we did.

Yup, what comes around, goes around - works that way out on the water as well. That's one of the many great things about boating.

Awesome. This is what iboats is all about. Can't tell you how many things I've done myself that in the past I would have paid someone else a lot of money to do.

LOL... Yep, easy to do. But it's a mistake you won't make again for awhile, kinda like leaving the plug out. :)

Nobody likes getting burned on a purchase, but look at it this way: Now that you know that you guys are capable of doing all of this yourselves, you're going to save many thousands of dollars that other people blow having marinas do their maintenance for them.

When I took my first boat out for the first time I discovered it had a bad impeller. Got it home and discovered the overheating also caused a blown head gasket and warped head. Local marine mechanics wanted anywhere between 2 and 3 thousand to fix it. (I paid $1500 for the boat.) Fixed it myself in a weekend for $150.

Being able to do your own work is a great thing, and even the big, scary jobs end up being not to bad if you have a good manual and just take it step by step.

Glad to hear you got the boat running! Summer's almost here!
