A new project

Saw this hull (& trailer) on CL awhile back for $500 & it piqued my interest, but I was too slow & the ad dissapeared.

Last week it showed up again, but at $295!

I towed it home a couple hours ago.

Already have a 70hp Evinrude to hang on it!

Any idea on the hull I.D.? No transom plate.
Best guess is late 60's model (based on 1974 launch sticker on top of a few others).
16' long, 78" wide, Around 30" deep at the center of the transom.

Looks like an SS or maybe an Offshore to me. Nice grab!

My guess is a SuperSport. You are going to need knee braces to hang an outboard Look at some of the SS restos, She would make a nice center console. Good snag, Dawg. My SC disappeared too after I started dickering with the PO. He put her back up after a month at 1/2 his original asking price cause he said he was now tired of it sitting in his yard. He cost me a month of boating or puttering time on her. LOL

Looks a lot like a Volvo- Penta set up. Great time to convert to O/B as every thing is out of the way. But don;t cut the hull get a bracket for the O/B

With the consoles missing I think I'd go for a custom design center console too.

I never thought I'd say that....

Thinking Holiday.
Welcome Aboard.

SS I/O is listed in the 1974 brochures in 21' and 18' lengths. Some Cali SCs have been affordable lately.

Re: Just what I need!

I haven't yet been able to find a listing for a 16' I/O.
I really think this is a 60's model, based on launch pass stickers on the hull, & the design.
The 67 brochure shows a "Sportsman" model that looks real close in both color & design, but not an I/O......... info pages for the Sportsman, SS, & Offshore in the era aren't readable enough to see if they had a 16' I/O.

Yes Kev, there are some S.C. deals to be had out here if you wait.
I had a deal on a 16' S.S. a while back, told the guy I wanted it & not to sell it. He agreed but couldn't meet til the next day.
I posted the ad here & said done deal I'm picking it up tomorrow......... I think someone swooped me, since the guy wouldn't answer or return calls after that (it had been listed for awhile)!

nice, esp in Cali at that $. and they saved you hours of work gutting it. Puget is right; get or build a pod/bracket for your OB. great first Al welding project.

I have a hydraulic jack plate that I will be using for the bracket.

I did a complete rebuild and seat and steering replacement for Purchase of boat - material and parts for about 1600. That was less the Motor. Boat was and is like new. This was on a 16 SS ft. 1978 I drove 250 miles one way to Oregon and back. I paid 800 for the boat trailer and a 50 hp Evinrude to start the project with.

Have you put a lot of thought into that approach? Are you planning on building a standard outboard splashwell? If not, how are you going to trim the motor up and what are you doing about steering and control cable clearance. These hulls don't do real well with anything more than about a 5" setback and unless you have a 30" shaft motor you'll never be able to trim it up more than about 20 degrees. You need about 18" of forward clearance which is why "Off Shore" brackets are typically 18" deep. That would work a lot better than a jack plate and would be far easier than building out the splash well. PM me if you want. If I remember, we're fairly close geographically. I have a bunch of 3/16 5052-H32 Aluminum laying around and a TIG welder.
