I just saw a magazine ad for Pennzoil's new XLF(extended life formula)- "Give your older engine what it wants" "helps improve performance in older outboards". Don't finish your article just yet LubeDude!!

Pennzoil XLF: Yes, I agree, But maybe its a good thing, who knows. But is it TC-W3? Still checking.

From the mouth of Pennzoil:

Developed for engines that are “seasoned” or have been in service for a few years. However, the robust formulation makes this oil exceptionally applicable for new high displacement/horsepower carbureted or direct injection outboard motors. Uniquely formulated with extra ashless dispersants to help keep performance robbing carbon deposits from forming in the combustion chamber, piston tops, under crowns, and piston combustion rings. Most importantly it helps keep exhaust ports clean. Formulated to a higher lubricity limit than NMMA AF-27 lubricity test to provide EXCELLENT protection against piston scuffing and reduce wear.

L.D. ya it's TC-W3, but aren't all the qualities that they list what people are looking for in ANY outboard, new or old? Why wouldn't they just use this new formulation in their regular oil and save the hype? I feel that they know the concerns people have with caring for the older motors and are just marketing to them to increase sales, much the same as some oil companies are doing for the auto segment such as a single maunfacturer having oil for regular service, high milage, 4X4, high performance, blend, and full synthetic applications. A lot of marketing going on there. Just my thoughts.
