Hey there. I am bringing back to life a Johnson 3hp jw-10. It runs but i was just cleaning it up a bit. I checked the impeller and out looked good, however i pulled the drive shaft out and the angle gear dropped out of place. I took the prop and others gears pot but how do i get at the angled gear in the very back? Any help would be appreciated.

try tilting the gearcase and jiggling the drive shaft back in ... it will probably slide in a some point. it did for me

Tried doing that kinda, and the problem is the gear seems to be lodged in some manner. I can get a long screwdriver back there and tried to wedge it free but it is free enough that it just turns everytime I try to move it with the screw driver. I will attempt tonight again.

Hold the gearcase with drive shaft horizontal and prop shaft pointing up. Slide the drive shaft in gently with a bit of wiggling. It should go right in.

Got it and yeah it took some prying. That sucker was on some sort of odd position and wouldn't fall back in line. Just took some patience and convincing. Got another issue but will start a new thread.
