Kayak/Canoe lift

I have a 2 person kayak that I need to rig up a way(cheap) for my wife to get it on and off the pier into the water. I was think about one of these lift cranes and some type of sling but wanted to see if anyone had anything they have built/bought for this.

I used a pair of these to lift a heavy kayak from the water to my pier. Put a screw eye near the top of 2 pilings and attached the rope hoist to each end. It lifted the kayak with ease but would drag it along the piling as it moved vertically. I was going to add some old firehouse to the piling but ended up selling the yak and getting a much lighter model. http://www.harborfreight.com/garage-shop/hoists/general-purpose-rope-hoist-45076.html
Might be worth a try- 15 bucks is a LOT less than that big steel hoist.

Something like that might work. I was also thinking about building two arms that extended from the pilings and epoxying two eyelets on the kayak and using a regular ceiling hoist.
