Hello All,

Been a while since I was on here last. Redfury and a couple of others will probably remember me. Sorry it's been so long. Here's the update & recap.

18' Lasvegas Sahara Tri-Hull with rotten floor, saturated floatation foam, one rotten cross member. Stringers looked fine although I did not take all the fiberglass off of them. I just did some basic sanding to remove the left overs of the foam so that the inside hull was smooth.

The tools that I used to remove the floor are as follows and the asterix beside the tools means that they are super at removing pieces of flooring in tight places.

*Rotozip
*Dremel Multi-Max (godsend of a tool)
Skill Saw
reciprocating saw
flat crowbar to remove chunks of foam.
18" belt sander
orbital / jitterbug sander.

Anyway, to the subject:

I have a gouge in the keel about 3' down from the bow maybe a bit more. I do not think it goes all the way thru the fiberglass as the keel is thick. I will attach photo's of this later on today.

My question is this: What is the best way to fix this? What type of fiberglass should I use? Mat, cloth a combination what? I know it will have to be done in layers as the way that it is damaged makes it hard to use just one piece folded up on itself then saturated with resin. Like I said, I will post a pic of the damage later. I will be putting on a keel shield later after the keel is repaired and the boat is ready for the water.

I have read a great deal of the book: "Runabout Renovation by Jim Anderson"
ISBN #: 0-07-158008-5. I have learned a great deal from this book and should be a must read for anyone starting a restoration for the 1st time as it will help you out a great deal as well.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance.
