Where it goes you'd need to clean the area to the gel coat.
Hose it off good and dry it or let dry. No soap or any cleaner. Just water.
When dry, wipe down the area with their "excelerator" or what ever and the guard is sticky-backed.
Warm the guard to help make it more pliable.
Line it up right where you want it BEFORE you let the guard touch the boat. Once it makes contact... it's definately stuck.

If the damaged area on your keel is caused by the trailer or is supported by the trailer and occurred elsewhere, I think you'll find that the "KeelGuard" folks suggest not to install their product, if where it would be installed, makes contact with the trailer rollers, bunks, etc.

This is what I bought from Iboats and it does say anti fouling must be removed and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before installing.
