Hey all,

Has anyone ever used or currently using a "KEELGARD"? Is it durable when adhered correctly? Does it remain adhered and stand up to beaching?

Thank you

Re: Keelgard Question

I plan on putting one on mine when finished redoing the hull. It definitely wouldn't hurt, I know mine should have had one long ago and I do a lot of beaching

What is the problem with me bolding the text? I think it is easier to see and read.

I don't have a problem with it, I was just curious. Bold on, brother...

Re: Keelgard Question

I think I saw a claim made by keelguard that keelgaurd will increase top speed. I have trouble believing that. Does anyone know for sure?

Re: Keelgard Question

I find that it will increase speed is a little too much to believe. If you add anything to the bow of your boat it will cause resistance - resistance causes slower speeds. It's not rocket science but I'm not a rocket scientist - just a lowly boater. I'd really like to see that if you can find it.

No speed increase - but I didn't slow down either. So speed change is insignificant on my boat al least. If you follow the instructions, scuff the surface, clean with the correct solvent and apply when warm it will take about an hour to install - at least that's how long it took this old man to install his.

Re: Keelgard Question

I was considering one of these for my boat but the information that scared me was regarding leaving the boat sitting on the trailer. Some of their information alludes to a problem if the keelguard sits on a roller for extended periods. The continuous pressure must not be good for it. My front roller sits directly behind the area most abused by beaching. Anyone with experience in this regard?

Re: Keelgard Question

No rollers here. I am on four bunks. I think it might be a good purchase, considering the great things you guys have said about it. I am most worried about it "ungluing" and looking like sh*t with the residue and peeling effect...........anyone had this happen to them?

Thank you for your responses.

Re: Keelgard Question

When I finally do mine I am going to make sure I have some spare marine adhesive on hand in the trusty tool box on the boat. I am expecting it to come loose in spots due to all the beaching I do with her, Just be prepared.>>Pat

Re: Keelgard Question

I did mine about 4 years ago. I followed the instruction verbatim with the exception that I did it when it was too cool out. I just covered the area and stuck a trouble lamp in there and it was fine. The shield contoured to the hull just fine and I never had a problem with it. On my boat I had beaching scars that had exposed bare fiberglass, so I covered that up with Marintex and then put the shield over that.

I also moved the roller on the trailer so it did not interfere with the shield. I would highly recommend it as it worked very well for me. It also is nice to know that it is there when coming in to beach so you don't have to wince that your bow is hitting gravel.
