So the 89 mercury 150 from my previous thread was sold before I went to pick it up...FYI my boat is a '90 Arriva 19'. I just found a '91 or '92 yamaha pro v150 that comes with everything(including a junk boat). He says it runs, which I will check the compression on. I can get the boat, motor and a good 18' trailer for $700. He said the motor has power tilt & trim. Is this a good motor?

The other option is just to keep the '90 force 150. I haven't had a chance to get it running, but I did find out it does not have spark to any of the 5 cylinders. So it might be more than just carbs like I thought(still need to rebuild them though I'm pretty sure).

I figured I could part out the force and get a decent amount for it to help pay for the yamaha. The main thing is, is the yamaha a good motor? He said it has all cables, gauges and everything, so what will I need to make this motor work on my boat? I kind of need to know soon if it is worth it because he has another offer on it too.

Thanks for any help.

It's going to be a crapshoot, either way, really. The Yamaha is 18 years old. Call a dealer and check on parts availability for that model. You may not get good news. As for the Force, it could be an easy fix, or it could be a tough one.

You're in a tight spot with this decision.

Yea I realize it is an 18yo motor, but in the thread for the other motor everyone was telling me to dump the force because the mercury was a way better motor. I was just wondering if yamaha's are good motors and are there parts availability issues like with the force basically.

thanks for the input
