Replaced both Relays for Power Trim/Tilt last week. One was bad (down). I now have blown the "down relay again. Batteries all show full charges (12 +.)....Fuses i've located outboard/Inline. all appear to be fine. Connections (+ / Grnd) appear to be fine. When I replaced both relays, Power trim/Tilt worked great for (2) days of fishing, then the down relay stopped working again. I can switch relays and down works, up doesn't (Opposite). Thus my bad relay conclusion ??. Ive tried trouble shooting through forum and am stumped. What would cause a relay to go bad ??

first thing I hope you are not buying them from merc at $25.00 each. You can buy them on line anywhere for $2.00. They are very common. I used them for many things on different applications. The only time I ever saw that happen was when one of the trim buttons was staying on. Be really sure you have a good ground also.

NO, not buying from merc. or boat store. Getting them from local autoparts store 6.99 ......I dont feel like trim buttons are sticking because I can hear click when I press down trim. I have two different locations for power trim.. One on throttle and one on front fishing deck near trolling motor. Both will not trim down, only click. When I swap relays. Opposite happens, Click on up...I know from working on autos that I have received bad relays right out of the box. I will try to go back over and check all grounds. Thanks for reply. Greatly appreciated :) Do you prefer any specific brand in relays?
