I have a 1993 northwood 120 hp i/o that is currently running very good. I bought it last year. Last year I had to put in a new alternator and had a tuneup (changed plugs). What should I be doing to keep the boat running? Does it need another tuneup and when. What else, or just wait for something to crash and deal with it?

When is the last time the cooling area was looked at? The impeller is very important . Did you change the oil in the spring? Did you change the water/fuel separator cartridge? When is the last time you changed the lower unit oil?

I summerized the boat this spring which included changing oils and lubing gears per marine mechanic. I'm not sure what he did with cooling system. He changes oils in spring and lubed gears?

If you do not know exactly when the impeller was changed then replace it before you go out next. A worn out impeller will cost you an overheated or blown engine. They normally need replacment every two years. Since replacments are less expensive than a tank of gas these days it would be a good deal.
