Up here in Northern Ontario Canada the boating season is short as is. What do people do when they want to keep their boats in the water longer. Will a car heater in the bilge (with ventilation) be good enough to keep the engine/manifolds and power steering from cracking? Or is it possible to drain the block while the boat is still in the slip.

I'd probably prefer to drain the block & manifolds. A heater could stop working for some reason and leave you frozen (power loss, broken heater, etc).

Does the body of water freeze?

Ayuh,.... You can drain the motor, 'n manifolds,...

How cold ya talkin',..??

Mine sit's in it's slip, through some chilly nights,... mid-20s...

But, the water is still in the 40s, 'n the motor box is insulated... tinbarge too...
