Keeping the hull straight

I'm currently re-habbing a 1966 Duo Fiberglass runabout - Progress is good, cap is off, most of the floor is out and the transom is falling out on its own...

Without the cap and floor, there is some pretty good flex in the hull. Looking for suggestions on how to ensure the hull is straight, before I start installing the new transom, stringers & floor. There is no really good point to place a level.

Re: Keeping the hull straight

The best way is to crade the hull before removing the structure.

Check out my thread (in my signature) and see how I built a cradle for the hull. You can also screw supporst from side to side to keep the sides from bowing out.

If you have a bunk trailer the hull will likely stay true as far as the bottom goes.

If the sides bow out, it wont be hard to push them back into the top cap as they are usually pretty flexable. If you dont have a good supporting bunk trailer i would just build a simple cradle as suggested using plywood and 2x4's

Good luck
