Keikhaefer Neutral Safety Switch???

I have Keikhaefer Zero Effort controls on my '00 Cobalt. I was pulling new shift cables tonight and realized that some jack*** has unhooked one of the switches and jumpered it, effectively making it ineffective. Probably the same genius who removed the engine alarms. Anyway, I am assuming that since only one switch was bipassed it is probably bad. Any idea where I can get a new one? I did an internet search but haven't found any promising leads.

Not sure why this thread ended up in the Volvo forum, since it's a Mercury control used on outboards, IO's and the racing Mercs. So sending it back to where you originally posted it, in the boat topics and questions forum (Not engine topics)

Re: Keikhaefer Neutral Safety Switch???

I just went through this with my Keikhaefer controls. Here is the link to the merc parts diagram. If you do not have the mounting hardware, the part you want is #23 (87-846295A1), switch assembly. If you already have the mounting hardware for the switch, it is part #26 (87-846177), just the switch. The assembly goes for $78, so I would test the one you have before you go spending lots of $ replacing it. I ended up making my own mounting hardware and bought a lever switch at radio shack for $5. Works with no problems.

Thanks, all. Yeah, that looks like my switch. I believe I still have all of the other parts, I am just assuming the switch has gone bad. To confuse matters further, I realize that I have what are essentially Merc Racing controls on a Volvo. Who knows.
