Hi I hope someone can help me. I had to replace my old switch because I tightened it too much and ended up breaking the end off. Any way I wired it this way

Starting with the bottom M and going clockwise you get this order:

Starting with the bottom M and going clockwise you get this order results in these wires going to each terminal:
M B M C I S
M=SOLID BLACK
B=RED
M=BLACK w/YELLOW stripe,... both if more than one!
C=PURPLE w/White stripe
I=PURPLE...both if more than one!!
S= YELLOW w RED stripe
dont mix the M's!!!!!
My guess is the "I" does NOT stand for ignition. It stands for INSTRUMENTS and the purple wire supplies a power source for them!!!! so your gauges will power up when you turn the key on. and the "A" stands for ACCESORIES on the original switch, which is instruments as

Well any way all I have to do is turn the key on and the motor starts to turn over , so I just can?t figure out what is going on I do have it just like the instructions . Do you think something is shorting or maybe bad switch and how will I check this out? I would really love to go boating.
Please any advice I am knocking myself out.

Double check that the Yellow/Red is indeed connected to the "S" (solenoid) terminal of the switch.

If it is, that is the correct attach point for that Yellow/Red wire and the started should not engage unless the key is turned to the START position.

If attached properly and the starter engages in the ON position, remove the YELLOW/RED wire, then turn the switch to the ON posiiton... the starter should not engage now due to the solenoid wire being out of the circuit. If this holds true, I would assume you have a shorted ignition switch.

Your switch does have six (6) terminals doesn't it..... M (magneto), M (magneto), B (battery), C (choke), S (solenoid), A (accessory) or I (ignition) ?
