I some how got the keyway installed wrong and it made a new groove in brass in the impeller. That probally is causing it to spin on the shaft. Is there some kind of trick to tapping the new impeller onto the keyway? Glue ect.???

No, it is pretty simple(I am not making fun of you). Just line the groove on the keyway into the groove inside the brass hub of the impellar. It is kinda tricky in regards to holding the key onto the driveshaft, while you slide the impellar over the key(ALIGN GROOVES). Anyway that is about it...... :D

Hi, tried to put it on in the past and never could get it on without hammer. Today cleaned the driveshaft and filed and sanded some of the groves left where the shaft wobbled against the upper housing cover in the past and ect. It finally slid right on. Bad thing though as it has too much play in it. Fashioned a shim with some scrap metal to put under the keyway. Will let you know if if holds up. More testing & tuning under way.

It also may help to have a water pressure guage. People have told me it is more important than a temp guage, and I now believe it. Even if you spin it, you will be able to see it on the guage. I think your shim will work if it is in their pretty snug. Hopefully the next time you replace the impellar, everything will fit as usual. You most likely distorted the brass hub trying to get it on earlier. :D

thanks bushcat. I did install the pressure gauge. My friend works AC hvac and had a bunch of gauges in his tool box so I got it for free. No need to go buy a 50 dollar quicksilver gauge. Anything pretty much will work from your local salvage shop and some rubber hose.

Shelbydriver, one quick question, a little off topic, but where did you tie into the water system to put your pressure guage on?

Update. I tied into the hose comming off the fitting between the heads on the top of the block. Works great. Today did more testing and after a 6 month battle with carbs, prop, and waterpump housing its working!! yeah!!. It's running around 5500 rpms with a 13, 1/4 x 17 ss prop. This thing screams. The compression was only 90 to 105 before new head gaskets and sea foam. Thanks to everyone.
