The boat:1967 Starcraft Starchief
The main engine: 1963 Evinrude 75 HP, electric shift.
The kicker: early 70's 6 horse Johnson.

I steer the kicker using a motor connector rod attached to the steering for the main motor. Works fine, no problem.

For the last few seasons I have contolled the throttle and shift on the kicker by running to the stern and adjusting. I would like to control it from the helm.

Last year I bought a dual lever control box to hook to the kicker... but once I had it.. I couldn't really find a spot to mount it where it would be easy to operate or in the way. As it is not used much I decided against installing it anywhere.

How does everyone else set up kicker controls? Do you use 2 sets of controls, one for the main motor and one for the kicker? If so, how (where)do you mount them? Or is there a better solution?

I've seen them mounted just aft of the main control. I don't have a second control on mine, but that is where I would mount it... Chief

My boat (bought used) came with two controls, main in front, kicker behind. I didn't use kicker control, so I removed it.

I use a remote throttle control made by Trollmaster

I've been using it for a year now and it works great. Its a throttle control only, no shifting control.

Position it where it would be best and most comfortable to you mooner. I've seen them in front of the main control, in back and below. Depends on your rigs setup and room for an extra control.

Thanks for the replies so far. That Trollmaster looks cool. Any idea on the cost?

Trollmaster. Is that the one who watches for the likes of those who offers little or no intrinsic value to a thread, but instead tends to incite disagreement and discord? Is JB a Trollmaster?

Mine cost about $180 but that was the older version. I'm not sure what the new version costs.

You can get it online like at Cabela's but if you order right from the company they will sell it cheaper. Cabela's was selling for $249 when I bought mine and I got it for around $180 directly from the Trollmaster company.
