Hi, going to install a 18hp Nissan on the transom of my 1998 Seaswirl as a kicker, I am wondering about the best way to penatrate the transom with the cables and fuel line. Thought I might use a thru-hull type fitting or find some kind of boot/grommet. Any suggestions?
The other question I have is how far down in the water should I have the unit when its in the operating position? I will be using a lift and tilt bracket on the transom. Just want to make sure that it does'nt cavitate too much in rough seas.
Thanks for your help and suggestions

Re: kicker installation

this is a question that is never completely answered. it has to be deep enough to cool and get purchase to propell the boat. but you don't want it swamped in rough seas. of course the best place is with the cav plate even with the bottom of the boat. if the bracket you are using is adjustable, i'd set with the cav plate even in the lowest position. you can also was raise it , if it is getting swamped.

Re: kicker installation

I can't answer your thru-hull questions.

As for the depth, my kicker just doesn't work well unless the a/v plate is even or below the bottom of the boat. Obviously, since the boat isn't on plane, this is pretty deep. If I don't do this, it tends to ventilate at a very low speed.
