Kicker motor dragging in water

I added a 8HP Evinrude longshaft recently and use it most of the time to push our 16' Starcraft around the local 10HP rated lakes. We spend probably 90% of our time there. We took the boat to Stonewall Jackson Lake over the 4th and has issues with the kicker motor dragging when we were at WOT with the 55HP motor and it tried to fall off, but a safety chain and a lip at the transom kept that from happening, although now I must repair the lip as it pulled up. The 8HP has a lock feature and was out of the water but when we were at WOT the boat dips down a bit and the kicker drags some. Would you folks consider bolting the kicker in, adding a motor plate, or what?

I'd opt for a kicker bracket, then you can lift it up out of the water and cruise around.

You should be able to find one used pretty cheap on CL.

Sorry for delay. Had some issues with computer. My transom is kind of low with the design of the boat, so I was not sure if that would help. I will look at a few and see how high they can lift the motor.
