I am able to get my hands on a 4hp Rude motor for a deal. I have a 17ft Glastron Bowrider and was wondering if that will make a good kicker motor for emergency use. Anyone?

Depends upon whether or not you will need to battle current or tides. I had an 8 HP on my 18 foot Renken and it only went about 3-4 MPH. The one time I did need to use it, It took me 2 hours to go two miles upstream but the wife stayed calm since we were making some headway.

As long as the wife was calm lucky you, then everything was fine. I like fishing in the bays near Galveston Tx so I might need a larger motor but I will see. Thanks.

A 4 was adequate for my 16' aluminum Starcraft. I'm thinking you are going to want an 8 or larger. A 15 would be ideal because usually they are the same block as the 9.9 so you get the extra HP without additional weight.
