All,
I have a '70 Glastron V166 that I want to add on a kicker motor. What I would like know is does anyybody have any recomendations for size. The boat is a 16' tri-hull style.

The need for the kicker would be to use to troll on lakes, and for use in and around the bays on the North West Pacific coast. Wanting something that will troll down nice but be able to keep me from floating out to sea on an ebb tide if the main motor is unusable. Would 7.5 hp be enough or should I be looking in the 9 - 15 hp range? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
KC

Re: Kicker motor size

I have the same boat (albeit a '76 T-166 tri-hull) and have contemplated the same question. Since I am in a small freshwater resevior and river, I elected to go with an large electric trolling motor. I have a 42lb thrust and it moves the boat well. I'm not sure how 42lb would equate to HP, but I would thing that a 6-8hp would move you fairly well, but that's jsut an assumption on my part.

KC
Go with the 9.9 to 15. I have a 21 foot aluminum runabout and 1975 15 HP and it is not enough on windy days but will slow down so much lures do not work. Weight is 74 LB.
