We are buying our first boat in a matter of minutes...a 1976 Star Craft, 16' with aluminum hull and 55hp motor. While this motor will be fine when we go to the larger lakes we will spend a lot of time in lakes rated 10hp or less, so we will need a kicker motor. I would ask, being new to this....would a short shaft motor fit OK or do I need a long shaft motor since it is deep v boat.....or does it really make any differance?? Also, how hard is it to hook up a kicker motor to operate from the drivers seat, rather than sitting in the back steering from there? For now will have to use trolling motor but am anxious to add a kicker...just want to get right one, as cheaply as possible.
