Kicker Mounting Advise

Hi there,

We have a 17' hourston glasscraft and are looking to attach a 9.9hp kicker. I don't believe there is enough room to mount the 4-stroke merc kicker beside the main (mostly because of the steering linkage).

I've got an adjustable bracket thats good for '20hp' but 110lbs seems like a lot of weight (and a big moment) to hang off my transom. That and I'm not excited about drilling holes in the transom.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Cheers,

Colin

It doesn't look as if you have room on the transom beside your main motor. If so, you likely have no choice but to drill holes to mount the bracket. If you are worried about the weight, add a metal reinforcing plate inside the transom to spread the weight.

Or, to reduce the weight, buy a smaller and lighter kicker; we run a 2.5 Merc two stroke as a kicker on our 18.5' SeaRay. That's lots of power for trolling and as a backup motor.

Re: Kicker Mounting Advise

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I will be trying to mount the motor beside the main this evening. I believe I have the space - I'm worried about interference with the main's steering system.... I'll post back and report how it goes.

I imagine I could make do with a smaller motor but as kickers seem like a very scarce commodity around here I don't imagine I will be trading down any times soon.

Cheers,

Colin

Managed to squeeze the kicker in (flexed the steering linkage a little but it doesn't seem to effect it.

As far as I can tell the motors won't interfere with each other (goes down to about 3/8" at the left most steering stop). Won't know for sure until I attach a steering link

Cheers,

Colin
