kicker prop

I have a 25' cruisers that I have a 15 hp Johnson 2 stroke kicker on. To get to 2.5 mph I am at 3/4 throttle, this seems too high to me. It has the stock prop on it still, I am thinking of buying a high thrust prop for it. Are they worth it for my application or not?

Thanks
Pete

Re: kicker prop

Yes,definately. It will get the motor closer to its operating rpm, give a little more speed and give more control.Problem is without any rpm reading no way to know what pitch you need or what rpm the new prop runs at. For motor health it should run within its rated rpm range. A Tinytach is about $40 and easy to install.

Re: kicker prop

I will invest in a tach. My goal speed is 2.5 for trolling just hoping to achieve that with less throttle. I want to use it as back up power along with trolling, seeing that my main power is an OMC. Will the new prop also allow me enough speed to get back in 5 miles if need be? Thanks for the help.

Re: kicker prop

Speed results are pretty much a guess it will surely be faster than the factory prop
and deal with unsetteled conditions better. My guess is 5 miles would take at least an hour under ideal conditions.Let us know how you make out.
