Kicker Shift Extender?

I plan on running a 5 HP Tohatsu kicker with a tiller handle extension. While this will allow me to steer and control the throttle without hanging out the back of the boat, this does not allow me to shift. Is there an extension product that attaches to the shift lever? If not, any good ideas on how I can make one?

Re: Kicker Shift Extender?

I don't know how the shift is laid out but::
How about something like 1/2 inch or 3/4 in. PVC water pipe.Attached to the lever so as not to break it if dropped twsted or other wise jamned against the lever.1/2 in. might be flexible enough so you could bend it up along the tiller. If you hose clamp a piece of larger pipe to the tiller extension you may be able to guide the shift piece through it.
