I have a 23' Seafox WA with a single 250hp Yamaha. I would like to fish offshore but need a kicker for peace of mind. Question is what size motor should I use with this boat. I have seen other boats in the area with as small as 8hp while others carry a 20hp. Will an 8hp do the job if propped right?

Thanks,

MS

Re: Kicker size

I have always used the 10% rule. Especially offshore.

The kicker should be 10% of the HP of the main engine. In your case-25 hp.

Re: Kicker size

no less than a 25, remember to calculate for bad weather and winds offshore. you want enough power if you are comming in against the wind.
