hello i've worked on a few merc outboards so I know the colors fairly well,
but this 2 cyl 91 mariner 40elto 6e9 japanese sourced electronics made by
mitsubishi or nissan are totally diffrerent. This motor suffered a violent lower unit
seizure due to water in the gear casing, now after new lower end everything
should be good ,but there is no spark at all,so 1st step-eliminate kill circuit,ok
but which is it? there is no blk/ylw wire .

switchbox 6Z05 7wires orange----coil
white------remote controls
black------ground
brown-----stator
wht/red----stator
black------stator
black------coil
it must be the white that goes to the remote controls and comes back as black and is connected to ground? or the black that goes to ground directly out of the switchbox.
I am getting continuity to ground on both when disconnected
i.e. white from remote control to ground continuity
white from switchbox to ground no continuity
black from switchbox to ground continuity

so maybe the problem is in the key or kill or neutral switches,I hope so!
But then wouldn't the starter not work also?

Once I eliminate the kill circuit I guess ill have to test the stator and
ignition module for output
stator wires black
brown
white with red stripe
with no yellow wires,is there no charging circuit ?

trigger wires two greens

oops this is getting long winded now, thank you very much for any help
ie. wiring diagrams, ignition test specs, any advice at all,by the way I have tried to get a manual for this engine but no luck. thank you

Re: kill circuit wire color jap made 91 mariner 40elto

Laddie sir ,thank you very much,I disconnected the whiteand braapappapapppap
started up like my wife after her sunday salon rendez vous with my boss's wife ,brapappapaapp.
So I opened up the controller and The white goes straight to the keyswitch , the neutral start microswitch was broken so I jumped the wires with a connector, but that did not eliminate the continuity to ground on the white, so
does that narrow it down to the keyswitch itself?
If so I'll have to bone up on my soldering skills cause I've done one of those before
and it's like playing twister with my wife after her sunday salon rendez vous......braappapapapp!

I'll have to get a new one ,So that's it ,gotta go skin some chinchilla
thanks for your help
I'm sure I'll be back

Check to see if kill switch cord is off...
