Kill switch/bad alarm

Probably a dumb question but I'm gonna ask it anyway. Is there anyway possible that on a 2001 Yamaha 115 2 stroke if the kill switch is bad that it could cause the motor to go into safe mode when alarm sounds. Or could it be a faulty alarm itself. This is my first Yamaha and I found out the hard way that you test the overheat alarm different than on a Evinrude. I've replaced almost every cooling part I can think of. Overheat buzzer goes on then back off and everything is fine. Just want to make sure I ain't missing sonsometh simple as a bad kill switch or faulty alarm....any help is appreciated

That I know kill switches are only good to turn engine OFF once were ON. Probably the temp switch is faulty triggering a false alarm provided that all other things are doing their homework right.

The is only one alarm on Yamaha,
how do you know it is an overheat that is setting it?

I'm just assuming. The oil sending unit and all that stuff was taken out

oh so someone has butchered up this motor and you just think there is an overheat happening.
I would make sure what is bringing in the alarm before replacing parts

Not necessarily the temp sensor is detecting a continuous overheat, could just have gone bad, be altered due to time use, happens in cars too. How much are those sensors ? should not be costly.

Tested both sensors on stove with water. Both worked at around 180 degrees, which I think is about right. Just gonna flush real good with salt away and let her eat. If buzzer sounds again then I'll back up and punt. The sensors are around 40 bucks a piece

To know if both stats are doing their homework right, get the Service Manual stated operating temp, although both are opening, how do you know it's the correct working temp. Is 180° F° or C° ? Is the operating temp stamped on stats bodies ?

Did you sunk stats at the bottom of a metal container while heating water till they opned up ? If so, that's not the idealt testing procedure..

Could have a case of both stats opening too late, overheating OB once running at throttle and temp sensors being OK or a mixture of both, but that's pure tech speculation..

I called the guy at the Yamaha shop that put them in last year and that's what he told me. Said he put them in according to which one the model number called for, but he said most sound at 170 to 180 degress. I didn't try the thermostats in the water. That whole putting the sensors in hot water hooked to a ohm meter sounded a little like redneck engineering to me but hell I'll try anything once, we are in South Alabama..hahahahaha!! But my question is...if the water in the motor was that hot wouldn't it be hot coming out of the pisser. I mean 180 degrees is perty dog gone hot. And the pisser water has never been hot.

tell tale water does not get hot because it does not circulte thru motor.
just indicates the water pump is pumping

Ahhhhh...I didn't know that. Well the Yamaha guy said it sounds like a bad water pump. The water pump was changed last year, almost exactly one year ago. Can that thing go bad in that short time. Again there's a good strong stream of water peeing out if the hole. It's ran in fresh adn salt water , it been in the water about ten times since water pump change. No shallow water either. I've been told that makes a difference?
