Hi All:

I know there's been a ton of kill switch posts, but I have a unique situation--I think? I'm rigging an old Glasspar with a 1976 75 hp Chrysler outboard (757HB). I broke the ignition switch while it was in storage, so I have to replace it. Additionally, I also want to put in a kill switch. Here's the delimma---it only has wires to B, C, S, I terminals. The standard "M" wire connections to "parallel" the hookup for the kill switch aren't there. The old switch had red, green, yellow and blue wires going to it--only 4. From what I've researched thus far it is a Motorola type ignition??? Can I simply hook up my kill switch in series to the blue wire (I) to interrupt the ignition?

Your 1976 uses Motorola Magna-Power ignition. It does not need the "M" terminals. The blue wire supplies power to the Motorola CD box from the "I" terminal. This terminal only has power in the start and run positions. Thus: When the switch is off, no power goes to the CD box and no spark is produced.

"B" is red, battery. "S" is yellow, start. "C" is green, choke. "I" is blue, ignition.

If you absolutely need a kill switch, install a normally closed single pole switch in series with the blue wire.

If you want to install a "dead man" or man overboard switch with lanyard then be certain that you get a normally closed one.
