My 1982 15 hp Evinrude wouldn't start, and I discovered the button on the kill switch was broken off. I shorted the wires and now the motor run fine, except the only way to kill it is to choke it out. I was going to replace the button, but the only part I can find is the entire apparatus, which costs $114.00! The entire motor isn't worth much more than that. Since all I need is the button, is there any other way to 'jury rig' the motor to shut it off? I'm not really worried about the kill switch as a safety issue, as the motor goes really slow.

Find or drill a hole in the lower cowling and mount a toggle switch in it.
Many toggle switches have a rubber cover available to water proof it.

Well I'm thinking slow is still a lot faster than you can swim. Sea Dog makes a great universal man over board switch that will fit in the same hole as, earlier than your, 15's with a kill button. If yours has a simular hole or you can see a good place to drill one I would recommend the Sea Dog kill switch. Best of luck. Rick.

Couldn't agree more, I was tossed out of a boat a few years back as I was trolling(2.0mph) by a wave bigger then my lil boat that seemed to come out of nowhere. Bad part was I hit my head on the side of the boat on my way out dazing me just long enough for the boat to drift a good 20 yards from me before I could catch it. I'm glad I had my kill switch lanyard clipped to my belt loop, or who knows how far it could have gotten under power.
