My boat never had a kill-switch installed before and my state requires a kill switch by law. What wires do I need to connect the kill switch to in the controller to install a kill switch?

I'm buying a universal kit this afternoon and I was hoping to install it. Any helps is much appreciated!:D

The kill switch will work on the same connections (M and M) that turn the engine off with the ignition switch. When complete, the wiring should be similar to that shown on the diagram seen here: http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg

Be careful not to allow voltage to ride the black with yellow striped wire (kill wire) while making your connections or it will destroy the powerpack; it's best to have the battery disconnected.

Do I have to connect the wire exactly at the same point on the ignition switch as shown or can I just tap the black-yellow striped wire wire from the kill switch to the black-yellow striped wire from the ignition switch with a splice?

That way, when the kill switch is flipped (lanyard pulled) the circuit grounds the kill switch to the wire and not the ignition switch.

That make any sense?:D

I just think it will be easier to tap the factory black-yellow wire vs. connecting directly at the ignition switch.

Is there any chance I can blow my powerpack even if no battery is connected? (thanks for the tip by the way) I want to do this right but I don't want to chance breaking something. There's only two wires, the ground and the kill wire. How hard could it be?

I installed the kill switch as shown in the diagram and I was able to connect to the back of the ignition switch as shown.

Thanks for the diagram, that was a HUGE value!:D

Everything is working good now.
