I just finished up yesterday putting stick steer and control cables/box on my 12' aluminium and 15hp motor. After I was done I started thinking how I could kill engine without moving to back of boat. There's no issue with going back to shut it off but in case of an emergency or something I would like to be able to have the kill switch within arms length. The motor is a 1983 Suzuki DT15 pull start. I'm wondering if I can just run wire and attach a toggle switch or if I need to stay with a push button style likes what's in the end of tiller handle.

What about installing a kill switch with a lanyard? If you fall out of the boat during an emergency you still won't be able to reach any motor stop switch.

Yes that's a very good idea. Thanks! Do I just run wire to the location I want the lanyard and wire it up? If so I'll probably cut a spot in my control box as long as nothing is in the way.

Don't know anything about Suzuki's so can't offer any help with the wiring of a kill switch.

Gonna move this to the Suzuki section for an answer from the guys over there.
