I just got my first boat w/ 1995 Johnson 130hp and doing some maintenance on it and notice that the lanyard needed to be in to start the boat but when I pulled it it didn’t shut down. Did some digging and found the the kill switch was hooked to yellow /red wire which from the schematic is to be hooked to the neutral safety switch(not sure what that is). And also found 2- blk/yellow wires I think are to be hooked to the kill switch behind the shifter panel. Am I on the right path?

The neutral safety switch is this a separate toggle switch or is this something that is part of the shifter mechanism. Thanks for the response eager to get on the water!

Its a switch operated by the gear shift mechanism to allow the engine to be cranked only when in neutral ...
