Ok, i was fishing and realized no water was coming out the discharge tube and the motor was really hot, I shut it down and paddled back about 2 miles. We changed the water pump and everything but now the motor wont start. I took out the spark plugs and water was in the bottom cylinder. I put some oil in the cylinders and it started right up and then quit. I need help with this before my dad gets back! any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Killed dads boat

post the year and HP. Take a compression test and report results. With any luck, you will only need a head gasket.

The good news is Father's Day is June 21st. Why not surprise him with a new rig?

Seriously though, sorry to hear about your misfortune.

edit: I'm sure the experts here will help you fix her up.

Head Gasket.........
Head may be warped from heat.........
If warp is minor you can sand it back level. Secure a sheet of 400 wet/dry sandpaper on a flat surface.(glass works well) Sand in a figure 8 and check as you go. Rinse clean and dry.

Install with new gasket.
Find and fix cause if no water circulation.(bad impeller/blocked pickup/Faulty T-stat)
Test........stay near the dock until you know it is running properly.

Good luck:)

Re: Killed dads boat

Sounds like your tester has a bad valve.

Re: Killed dads boat

Compression should be 90PSI + and even on both cylinders. I suspect your gauge is bad. I would rerun the compression test with a known good gauge and crank it until gauge peaks. If it is still low in compression, remove transfer covers (crossflow motor) and inspect the piston rings and cylinders for scratches. Post back your results.
