Seems like I always get great deals and then find out the hard way why they were such "great deals" my recent ebay purchase of a Bayliner 2850 that needed a new sterndrive seemed like a steal. Then the 351/cobra turned out to be a 460 king cobra. The sterndrive would make a wonderful "electrolysis...don't let this happen to you photo".Everything on the outside of the transomcase is shot. Internals may be useable. Finding a transom assy. and King Cobra drive just doesn't seem to be realistic. I'm also confused about the transom assy. Is their any difference between std. vs King? Are the cases the same? Will a Volvo bolt up? I don't think Volvo has a raw water pump but that could be added. Is a Bravo cut-out larger or smaller? Options would seem to be limited to (aside from scraping the boat which would be way to sensible for me to do) converting to a Bravo 1 or 2 or a Volvo, or installing a std. Cobra and taking it very easy, not sure what kind of coupling woes I'll have with the 460. Anyone have any experience with this? It's a nice low timer and I've gottsna do something

Any V-8 that size is going to guzzle fuel.

I have a 454 MPI/Bravo III in a 26' Crownline. I cringe every time I go to the pump. Yikes is that thing thirsty.

I have installed the Volvo DP-S drive on a couple of Bayliners, one a 2850 and one a 2858. It can be done, BUT.
The coupler between the engine and drive may be next to impossible if the old one fails.
I'm fairly sure the 460 Exhaust manifolds are about as easy to find as the coupler.
If you still want to stick with the 460, and you have MS WORD on your computer, Click Here for the details of how to make the conversion of drive only.
The last couple of 28's I have repowered completely with the 8.1MPI/DP-S Volvo drive. Both charter fishing boats.

is Don saying if you loose your existing 460 coupler your toast or that you need a new 460 to Volve coupler which doesn't exist anymore (NLA)

Re: KIng Cobra confusion

There are no OMC couplers for the 460 as far as I know. Volvo never used the 460, so no coupler there. So if you loose a coupler, you are going to spend a lot of time calling every marine store know to man trying to locate one.
That's one of the hazards of buying boats with engines and drives that the manufacturer went out of buisness 10 years ago. No New Replacement Parts.
It appears there weren't enough of the 460's out there for another manufacturer to produce them as an aftermarket item.

Not sure if you guy's caught my other post thanking you for the info. Don what you sent was more than anyone could have anticipated. I think I understand that the DP shaft will couple with my 460 with existing hardware. The performance features of the duoprop seem impressive. I'm gonna follow in your footsteps and hope for the best.

Thanks again fellows
