King Cobra to Mercruiser Transom Assembly?

Hey all, I'm very new to boats and have a probably naive question. I bought a boat with no engine or outdrive. We have rebuilt a 454 to go into the boat. I picked up a cheap Volvo/King Cobra setup just for the manifolds. I've been doing some reading and King Cobras actually seem to be very good outdrives. I was going to buy a Bravo 1 but I'm now wondering if I can use this. I have the coupler, bellhousing, and transom assembly for the King Cobra. The boat already has a Bravo transom assembly installed that seems to be in much better condition. My question is will the King Cobra mount to the Bravo assembly? Also, I assume the coupler/bellhousing will not work with the Merc assembly? I can find lots of posts about going the other way but none about using the King Cobra instead of the Bravo. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

There is no way to do that really, there is a conversion for the standard Cobra (dog clutch models) to install a Merc Alpha on the Cobra transom mount (SEI conversion) and there has been for many years the conversion to install a Volvo SX on the Cobra transom mount but nothing to do what you are discussing. I'd sell off all the OMC stuff there are people looking for it still and stick with Mercruiser, if you want a boat to use and not have to search for NLA odds and ends parts. You can keep an OMC going but its like owing a classic car you need to find things in advance of when you will need them.

Thanks Lou, this is exactly what I was thinking to be honest. We have all of the parts for the OMC so the thought was that we would just put them in but when I saw how much better shape the existing merc assembly was in, I started have second thoughts. It looks like I could get between 1500 and 2000 for the drive if I'm patient or 1000 if I want to sell it quick. 300 or so for the trans assembly if I sell it together or closer to 500 if I'm willing to break it apart. That would get me pretty close to a Bravo 1 and merc drive coupler.

Thanks Again!
