I'm thinking of repowering my Bayliner so I was also considering upgrading a bit. My question is if anyone knows if a king cobra will mount up to the same holes as my old cobra?

No way is that an upgrade though...The King Cobra parts are about 3 times the price of the regular Cobra.
Why upgrade to something that is expensive and parts are harder to find?

A Mercruiser repower is the way to go! It will fit the transom hole too...

I was going to replace it because of the increase in horsepower. So I won't have to repair and drill the transom to mount up the Merc outdrive?

Nope,... Since OMC went Outta Business,+ Volvo Switched to the Merc. Keyhole,....
It's the Industry Standard....

The King Cobra would be a bad choice, but you could easily convert the drive to a Volvo DP-S style drive. Then you could keep the same transom shield and trim system. They use them on MPI Big blocks, they can handle any added HP

Howdy,

I pulled a 460 King Cobra out of my 1987 Four Winns 211 Liberator and replaced it with a 1997 454 Bravo III. Other than doing a little cleanup and repainting in the engine compartment area, all I had to do for the change was slightly relocate/re-drill the front engine mounts and drill 2 additional holes in the transom. (The cobra gimbal has 6 studs and the Bravo has 8)

Comparison.
Bravo on the left, King Kobra on the right.

Great pictures - thanks - I'm repowering my 1988 Bayliner 460 OMC King Cobra with a Mercruiser 357 Mag and Bravo III package and I was worried about the transom fit till reading your post.

What about the electrical connections to the helm - are there adapter connectors or just splice everything?
