Can I replace my Cobra outdrive (5.7) with a King Cobra. Just want to know if it will bolt up.

OMC in their infinate wisdom named 3 completely different drives King Cobra, however only one out of the three will bolt on to your regular Cobra. The 2 that will not bolt up both have cone clutches in the upper housing.
Even though the one will bolt up, it may not have the correct gear ratio.

No, it will not bolt up....and why do you want to go with a King Cobra....there are much harder....almost impossible to find parts for anymore and when you do find parts, they are expensive. Stick with the Cobra trust me, Cobra's yes are a dying bread but there are a few of us still hanging on.

Just a quick question why do you want a King Cobra?

Its not a matter of want. I just had my Cobra reapaired, cost me $2100. Works great now.
I saw a cheap boat with a King on it and was thinking of buying just to have a spare drive.

I would say "It depends" on what year the King was, they had 350 King Cobra's back in the late 80's but the drive was still the same as yours, they just fancied up a few things on the engine and called it a King, my 89 460's are called King's but they are still a clutch dog style drive.

and not all of the 460 units bayliner used had cone clutch kings. I worked on a 28 ciera with a 460 and later a 454 with a king cobra that was a dog clutch version.
