Bought a boat 1994 model 70hp outboard and the guy installed a Yamaha tach in. it has oil & temp icons . The tach is working but he did not hook up the icons.
There is a pink wire coming from harness not hooked up and a pink wire coming from the tach. they look like they meet but he said the tech told him not to hook them up. I ran the unit and after a couple miles the engine alarm, barely audible came on but the engine lowered in RPM (some kind of shut down) and the telltale water was cool and strong. The oil was full. Turned engine off and then after a minute started back up and off we went for another 2miles. Just trying to figure out why the pink wire was disconnected and how this might relate. The old owner has never run the boat on the river since he installed the tach so I was wondering if they might be entwined with my problem. I had another boat and the alarm/beep was loud. This I could barely hear. My book doent really show wiring for a tachometer.
