New boater looking for some general info.
1st: what is the proper mixture for gas/oil for this 3 cyl engine? 50:1?
2nd: this engine runs awesome except at full throtle. It will run at half all day but as soon as it is opened up it dies. changed fuel pump, lines, had carbs cleaned and tuned. Has new (2 years ago) ignition pack, coil, plugs and bunch of frayed wires replaced. Buddy owned boat for years and done nothing more than ignition work.
Any sugestions?
3rd and last: Anyone have a picture or know of a link that would have what this motor looked like new? someone painted it white with a roller and what looks like bathroom paint!
Would really appreciate any info about these topics, thanx in advance.

A good place to look for "what it looked like new" is on e-bay. Look at closed auctions also. There is a group of restorers out there that take pride in original appearance.

Howdy, Wingnut.

50:1 is fine for your '68 55.

Check out your fuel tank venting and pickup tube for restrictions that could be limiting the fuel flow. You may also have a clogged up filter.

Good luck. :)

Hey wingnut, yes on the 50-1 ratio for gas/oil
On the high rpm running this is kind of a funny motor, meaning 2 sets of points, cd ignition and the advance system is connected mechanical for ignition advance. I would get a manual, it has been very helpful to me {I am in the middle of working on the lower leg on my 68 rude 55} I just finished a bunch of ignition/carburation/tune up etc. The trouble shoot and tune up sections would be of great help to you in figuring this high rpm problem. Especially go to the section where it talks about sync'ing the throttle, choke and ignition systems together. especially at 4500 rpms and up. Hope this helps, Denny

Hey Guys, thanx alot for the info. I had a 9.9 johnson that had a crazy 100:1 mix, glad didnt try it on this ol' girl. I think i will hunt down a manual for this beast. i'm positive its not a fuel issue, but this timing think sound like my culprit. Thanx again.
